La Villajoyosa / Vila Joiosa
The fishermen of Villajoyosa painted their houses in bright colours so they could find them from the water. Ochre, blue, pink, terracotta — the row still stands along the seafront, and it is one of the most photographed sights on this coast.
The town has made chocolate since the eighteenth century; the Valor factory and museum are still here. Beyond the centre run fifteen kilometres of beaches and quiet coves, and Benidorm is close enough for an evening out but far enough not to be felt.
