Polop is built around a hill with a castle on top and a cemetery famous enough that the writer Gabriel Miró described it. Below the old town runs a long stone wall with dozens of spouts — the Font dels Xorros, where people have collected mountain spring water for centuries.
The village sits in the foothills of Ponoig mountain, which keeps the summers cooler than on the coast. Newer villa neighbourhoods have grown on the slopes around it, most with a view down the valley to the sea.
Here you will feel at home if you want mountain air and a garden, with the beach and the restaurants a short drive down the hill.
