Santa Pola
Santa Pola smells of the sea in the honest way: the fish auction runs every afternoon, and the restaurants along the port serve what came in that morning. Behind the town lie the Salinas — salt pans that turn into a nature reserve where flamingos stand in pink water.
From the harbour, boats leave for Tabarca, the only inhabited island off this coast — a walled village, clear water, and no cars. The beaches here are shallow and wide, good for children and for windsurfing.
